Reading Yr2 - Since Sept he has read twice to teacher and once with TA ..acceptable or not ?

On all other occassions he has read with either parent helper or every night with us, he reads with the teacher once a month, they do group reading aswell.

He has been on same reading level since June and because he is 'middle' of class he gets no extra reading support nor is pushed .

Am getting a bit pissed off with lack of assessment from teacher or TA. I will be pointing it out at parents evening in a couple of weeks that I think to hear him read three times since Sept is not good enough and feel that he should have more support at school.

Any thoughts , is this acceptable ?

I think that this is not that uncommon. Time will be limited with the classroom teacher and her time is more likely to be spent 'teaching' the reading, than listening to him reading IYSWIM.

she may well be assessing him during group reading activities

but to a dree with will depend on how large the class is, a class of 30, assuming the teacher listenes for 10 minutes per child, is going to take her 5 hours to go through.

I do accept that it is quite common but when he was in Yr1 he read to the TA every two weeks and agin teacher was every month.

just feel that he is getting a bit left behing . he is in a class of 30 , just feel because he is doing 'OK' then he gets nothing extra whether to support him or push him.

Will try and get it explained at parents evening. My concern is that he has been on same reading level for months whereas pervoiusly he was flying through the levels, but when he has read with TA , teacher , parent helper , all comments ahve been - good read, fluent read , read confidently etc .
