Hi, I am asking as my son (who goes to reception next year) has been offered a place here. Dh is French but has not taught ds any French. Would sending him there disadvantage him in terms of doing the 7+ - thinking of sending him to a prep school for year 2 in the Sutton/Kingston area (where we intend to move)When I say disadvantage, I mean if he attended a regular prep school or state school at that age (I understand that he will need tutoring outside school). Any thoughts/views welcome!

Thank you!
May I ask if you were considering the bilingual stream or being taught purely in French?ds has a place on the bilingual stream. Dh thinks it would be good for ds to learn French at this early stage and we could do additional tutoring for 7+ at home, though I am not sure if that is going to scupper his chances of getting into a good prep school.

I should add, I am not French and do not speak much French! Mother tongue is English.

PS ‘additional tutoring for 7 plus’ - if you have a boy and are doing the 7plus for the competitive boys schools - is not a small thing! My friend’s son is at Wetherby and just got a place at Westminster. It was INSANE what the boy had to go through - and he is in an english school that is very much focused on the 7 plus.

Thanks all. I completely understand that the 7plus is v competitive and I just want to ensure I don’t make things harder for ds, though it would be good for him to learn French. Dh unfortunately does not speak French to ds (I have a stepson who lives with us and refuses to speak French - long story) but thinks the school can teach. On the other hand I dint want to sacrifice his entry to a good prep/senior sake because dh wants a school to teach him French (though I suspect the lower fees of the FB is also driving his decision).
