World book day ideas

I work in an infant school.

Last year’s world book day was so lovely-we had a visiting story teller, book swap and everyone wore their pyjamas for a bedtime story theme.

It stands out as one of the last days of relative normality (although i remember not shaking hands with the story teller and there being quite a lot of hand sanitiser involved!

Now we have half our kids at home and half in school and need some ideas that will be fun but not add any more stress to the parents who are understandably fatigued with home learning!

Has anyone got any good ideas?

Oh I am the misery that thought the pandemic had at least one perk and that missing out on World Book Day was it.

Sorry.

An online live reading session where you read a book to the children.

😂 we always try to make it as little effort for the parents as possible! But the kids do love it and I’m all for anything that breaks up the monotony of lockdown learning!

I'm a teacher too. Good on you. Seriously. I'm exhausted. xxx

How about everyone reads a Zoom story to a class other than their own?

LadyCatStark · 27/01/2021 18:57

Pyjama day, definitely. And arrange an online story time session for each class. www.world book day.com are doing some prerecorded readings and lessons.

OhioOhioOhio · 27/01/2021 18:59

I wouldn't give teachers another class to bother with.

Doyouwantanothercuppa · 27/01/2021 19:02

Oh no please grant us one mercy. Not this year. Please.

OhioOhioOhio · 27/01/2021 19:38

That's funny. Me too.

I know we’re knackered and I get you are being semi lighthearted but the kids really do enjoy it and I think we’ve always got the balance right before between doing something special and not creating loads of extra hassle for anyone.

I just want to give them something to look forward to-my own ds is ridiculously excited about wearing odd socks for some awareness day-that’s how little excitement there is in their lives at the moment!

Plus reading is one thing that is open to all, non screen based, cheap and a way of escaping this god awful reality for a while so doesn’t it make sense to celebrate it more than ever this year?

Sorry-I don’t want to come across as an arse. I’m just lacking in inspiration

Thanks-I’ve just looked at the activities and videos and they look quite nice for the younger ones.

What about everyone makes a poster of their favourite book cover and puts it in their window thereby creating a trail? x
