Moving house during school application

My son currently goes to nursery at the primary school I have applied for for him, we currently live in the catchment area but will be moving next month into a new one, still the same town and only a 5 minute drive. Will his application still be valid for that school as I really want him to go there, his cousin will be in the school with him and he already has so many friends at the nursery and knows all of the teachers.

You will need to update the address asap but keep your preferences the same.

You are moving to a different catchment area? Does the primary you like take applications from outside catchment?

Have you chosen other schools closer to new home on application?

If not near us you likely wouldn't get current school (as new house further away) or the good local schools near your new home (as didn't list) .. Just whatever left over....
Other areas might be less problematic.

Officially, your address on the 15th January is what counts. Hopefully one on the admissions experts will give you reassurance.

@LIZS I will update as soon as we move thanks, I might give them a call to say we are moving but still have the original as a preference

@happytoday73 I’ve just checked and by the looks of it his school does accept kids from outside the catchment area so that’s good! It’s also a pretty small school compared to others in the area and only has 1 class per year of 30 but most of the school only has about 20-25 kids so usually has space so hoping all that is a positive.

@Aroundtheworldin80moves ah that’s good news! I don’t feel worried about actual spaces in the school as they’ve mentioned a few times how they usually have spaces left I’m just worried it wouldn’t be an option, I suppose I could always appeal if he doesn’t get a place and hope for the best!

I feel so bad as it didn’t even cross my mind about all of this and the move has took so long it never felt like the end was in sight and now it is I’ve started to panic!
