First ever keyboard/piano lesson moved to online- is that workable?

DD age 8 was due to start lessons via school in person but now it has moved online. She has no idea about using a keyboard. Nor do I. Do you think it's ok to start like this or shall I postpone until it can be done in person?

Our daughter has been taking online piano classes since few months. I wouldn't start with online classes. It will be good to move to online only after few physical classes unless someone else in the house knows how to play.

I can't see the harm in starting online. Depends on your set up and the teacher's set up and how good they are at teaching online.

My DD started online. Hated it. Did manage to learn some things on the piano but hated the whole zoom aspect and it made it harder to understand what the teacher wanted

My DD is particularly sensitive though and found it hard to read when the teacher thought she was doing well

If it’s the first ever lesson, I would ask for a trial and see how it goes. The plus point of online over school is that you are there to watch and listen and can help when they get stuck during the week. Some teachers will allow you to record the lesson so you can watch it back too. It depends on the teacher but it can work really well.

Yes thank you all. Will ask for a trial. I played the violin as a child and no way would that have worked online for the first lessons. So will have a think

My 7 year old did her first piano lesson online (zoom) during the first lockdown and it worked brilliantly - I was skeptical but she loved it! It’s definitely worth a try
