Year 1 live lessons?

Been told by school that the Dept of Education guidance is there should be no live lessons for Year 1. Current online provision is patchy and relies on huge amount of parental input.

Does anyone know if this is correct? What are other schools doing?

Thanks

Younger children do require a lot of input and support. That's why social distancing in Primary is pretty much impossible. Lots of carpet time, group work, exploring, adult led activities. Online can't provide that. Focus on reading and maths and then let them play. Cbeebies are offering an educational program if you need them screen sat for a bit so you can do stuff.

With year 1, even if the teacher was online for 6 hours, they would need lots of parental support.

Live lessons are generally pretty terrible, especially the younger the audience.

Some live group chats, chance to keep in touch on some level with peers and teacher, but lessons would just be a complicated waste of everyone's time.

Remote learning generally works best with flexibility, there is no need for everyone to be doing something at the same time when they aren't together, and younger kids will need to be able to work when their adult (or teenager!) is available to provide input.

We are at a prep in West London, we don't get online live lessons. I have heard from some parents (some coming from HK and other international British schools) that it is perfectly possible and actually easier for the teachers, but you have to have max 10 children to handle.
Interested to hear what the top North London preps are doing? NLCS, South Hampstead, etc and also City Girls, Bute, Latymer, Putney High, Highgate, Habs x2. If anything these schools will be ahead, also most of these are all through schools so they will have the long term view and welfare of the child in mind.

Ds4s Yr1 class is starting live lessons tomorrow, it will be maths in the morning, story in the afternoon. They will be recorded at the same time. Children just joining in audio, not video.

I think they're planning on doing alternative weeks Maths and English

It's a v small state school
