Based on discussion in another area of the site.. If your child is getting access to a decent amount from their school during lockdown, please can you list briefly what they are covering today, per day. This way other parents whose children are getting little or nothing from their school, may be able to replicate some of it at home. Thank you.

This thread is for Year 2

Addition and Subtraction using a numberline, partitioning or beading.
Composing Questions.
Food Chains and Habitats.

Doesn't look like much written down but it was very intense actually.

Ds has had some cursive writing practice (letter c, I think) followed by a story which they then used to replicate the narrative style in their own story. Also looked at rhyming words etc. Oh and the prefix “un”.

This story had a vague theme of cycles (rainy season/dry season) so they discussed that.

Maths was equal and unequal groups. Used number bonds somehow but tbh I stopped following at that point.

PE now. I dunno what it involves but it’s noisy.

RE later. They’re talking about Allah.

I’m marking my place for activities.

I'm heavily supplementing what my child is receiving. Though in fairness the quality of work from the school this time is very high!
The focus remains on multiplication and division, descriptive langauge and a lot of IT apps.

MotherExtraordinaire · 07/01/2021 08:01

Today it's SPAG (mixed), creative writing, multiplication and division.

HyperHippo · 07/01/2021 16:06

Maths Google Meet live lesson on multiplication
Multiplication tasks on SeeSaw
English live lesson on description
Description task on SeeSaw
Pre-recorded dance lesson
Live RE lesson /discussion
Live phonics lesson
Live music lesson

Much improved from the last lockdown which was pre-recorded videos and the odd live group. Having the full timetable with lots of lives mixed in with the odd SeeSaw thing works well for us. DD has to be up and ready to go and then is structured throughout the day.
All I have to do is remind her to join for her lessons and the odd bit of tech support if she closes the wrong window.
This is a London prep school

Suffixes and ordinal numbers lessons on zoom with PowerPoint and class interaction, followed by independent work on seesaw. Then PE this afternoon. I’ve supplemented with additional maths and English workbooks as well as spellings.

Maths today was number partitioning, multiplication and division focusing on 2, 5 and 10 times tables and a page of her school workbook that we collected from her teacher yesterday.

English was reading comprehension, adjectives and nouns and then weekly spellings focusing on the long i sound spelt with a y. Plus usual daily reading.

Geography was continents, labelling a map then choosing a continent, researching it and creating a poster with a picture of the continent and some interesting facts.

I’m also supplementing with a science activity book that today was covering habitats and food chains.

DD is also working her way through a history encyclopaedia but that’s just because that’s her idea of fun.

Tillypea · 08/01/2021 11:06

English is currently verbs and learning past tense.

Maths is tally charts and pictograms with focus on the 5 times table.

Geography is continents and maps. Labelling and drawing where you live.

Science is classifying living, dead and never been alive items.

R.e is learning the difference between rules and routines.
