DD has offer from the above (and deligted) - we have been living abroad for a while and had to do search, exams and interviews completely online. We love the school but never set foot in it and DD is feeling a little intimidated by the sporty reputation. Never done hockey, cricket or any of the ‘British’ sports and while excited and willing to try something out of her comfort zone, she is also wondering what the range of commitment the school will demand of her on that front would be. What does thee bare minimum look like vs highest level of involvement? How awkward will it be for her to join teams when she’s never played these sports before? Will that make it hard for her to fit in etc?

She’s bright so academics should be fine, likes the arts/drama/planning things/volunteering etc so should have plenty of other areas to get involved in.

Any parents out there willing to offer a perspective on this ? I would really appreciate it as we feel like we’re going into this with no local insight. Thank huh so much!

How old is your dd and do you mean Kingston Grammar School for 6th form? If so you need to move to the Secondary Education thread.

I'm local to KGS with dc a similar age. The sport will be a games afternoon probably on a Wednesday, she can do as little or as much as she wants and yes learn new skills.

Hi again Singingrqin1223 - thanks so much for sharing. She would be going into Y9. Doesn’t sound onerous at all!

Year 9 is even better, she can take up a new sport easily esp cricket.

I LOVE KGS! They are very encouraging with trying sport and during games afternoons your DD will get to try different sports. However they have many different activities to throw yourself into, My child is heavily involved in the drama department.
