Help! Tudor costume needed

MissPL · 20/10/2007 10:29

DD1 aged 8 came home with a letter on Friday saying that they need to dress up in a tudor costume on Tuesday. Not much notice and I am useless with making or putting stuff like this together.

Any ideas anyone?

Ebay? Not much notice though. Did DD have the letter in her bag for a couple of weeks?

you can make a ruff out of tissue paper. Fold it in a concertina fashion a bit like making a fan. when it is folded up punch a hole through one end so you have holes all along one side, then thread it with ribbon.

Remember my mum making me a ruff in similar way with starched cotton, simple long skirt made out of heavy material like old curtains.

I've got a Great Fire of London peasant costume to rustle up but at least have a bit more notice.

tights, you could get a hat from a charity shop and put feathers in it, pumps

Google some pictures of Anne Bolyn. You can make a very easy headdress with thin card and a head scarf or any piece of material. Cut out the shape of the headdress and glue it to an alice band. Stitch the material/scarf or handkerchief to the alice band, so it hangs down the back.

Then any sort of dress or piece of material draped around body and tied in the middle will do, with a string of beads around the neck. I used some silver coloured beads that were christmas tree decorations. (I bought a remnant of purple crushed velvet type material for a pound, folded it in half and cut a hole for the head to go through and it looked very regal).

long dress, belt, grandma's brooch on top of blouse/dress, headband with a hankie sewn on (will take half an hour or so - no time at all)
