Hi lovely people, my first post here, please be kind.

We've just moved to the area and choosing between The Vineyard school and Marshgate Primary school for my 7 y.o. child. There is a place in both for in-year transition, distance to our new home is the same. Can't talk to any parents as don't know anyone yet and visit to school is not possible for obvious reason.

Please do share your positive/negative experience with both.
I'm looking for a loving school with good academic results, great teachers and happy kids. TIA
Katherine

P.S. I did see threads about these schools dated 6 years ago but thought there might be some updates?

@DSK8..did you hear from anyone at all?

ShradhaBB · 03/08/2021 14:32

I am keen to learn about the parents views on the two schools too as we are considering The Vineyard school, Marshgate primary school and the Deer park school for our dd. Would love to hear more recent feedback on them!

@DSK8 @ShradhaBB @pnair1983 wondering if any of you ever got any responses or whether you would be happy to share what school you went for in the end?

Hiya @ExpatMovingToLondon … I didn’t get much response on this thread but did quite a lot of research on the ground. Happy to chat if you have moved to the area and is in the process of applying to primaries

ShradhaBB · 25/01/2022 18:34

Hi @ExpatMovingToLondon, it was the same for me as @pnair1983 . After seeing several schools we agreed on Deer park primary school, Marshgate and Vineyard, in that order. We continue to hear conflicting views which can be quite nerve-racking. @pnair1983 it would be lovely to chat, hear about your experience too :)
Good luck to all with this incredibly challenging decision!

pnair1983 · 25/01/2022 19:11

@ShradhaBB - I totally agree, there is always that parent who had a terrible experience in your preferred school. I also feel that if someone has chosen private route then they cannot see the merits of state schools at all. Really difficult decision indeed

Hello there,

How can I reach you regarding the school search in the Richmond area?

pnair1983 · 17/10/2022 07:50

Hi there @NewinRichmond.. happy to help. Do you have a specific question re current catchment

DDNair · 18/01/2023 16:40

Hello, I am new to mumsnet and looking for school admission for my daughter in Richmond. Any feedback on Vineyard / Deer park school will be appreciated. Have visited Marshgate and have mixed opinions. Not sure about Vineyard, the recent reviews in this forum dont seem very positive. Deer Park seems is an outstanding school but its quite a new school. If you have any feedback from your research, pls do share. Thanks a lot!!!

pnair1983 · 19/01/2023 02:34

Happy to help @DDNair . Vineyard and Marshgate have small catchments so really depends on where you live. Also do consider the commute a few time a day for next 7 years

My son studies in Marshgate unfortunately his Year 4 last year was not great. The class teacher was on leave over half of the school year and the class was swung between a number of substitute teachers. Then the class teacher returned for the last two months before summer holiday with no clue about the children's progress.
Neither the headteacher nor the class teacher herself explained about the absence throughout the year. My son needs to find extra tutorial to catch up with the progress especially on his mathematics..
Both Marshgate and Vineyard are good schools in the area, reckon both suffer certain setbacks recently. For Marshgate things turned sour since the new headteacher on board, he served as Deputy in Barnes previously, experienced in a way but just nowhere near the last headmistress.

@DDNair hi! My daughter started in Deer Park last year and it has been exceptional in every way, we are very pleased and grateful. We did tour several schools, private& State and decided on Deer Park on gut feeling. Since all schools in this area are outstanding, it really helped to tour them and get an insight about the overall atmosphere, teachers and management and decide on which one felt right :)
