8+ assessment Kings College

Hello. I am wondering if anyone has feedback about 8+ reserve list for King’s College. I just received an email today saying that my son is being placed on reserved list and should there be movement on the places offered, they will contact me. Is any other parent in the same boat or has been in one in the past and can help me understand what are the chances of getting an offer?

I have been in that position twice. I'd say your chances are small, but not zero. Once I was offered a place, which we didn't accept in the end, and the other time we were on the list until September, but never got off.

This is speculation, but since 8+ is a much smaller intake than 7+ I would imagine they over-offer less, so they may go to the wait list more often. You certainly have almost no chance of anything happening until the end of January when the St Pauls response date will be. Your best hope is a boy who has an offer also getting one from St Pauls and wanting to go there instead.

Thank you for responding. This wait and anticipation is no nerve wrecking. The school isn’t telling me how many kids are on this list or their ranking. And as you say, it’s a waiting game until end of Jan when all other schools will issue their results. I am hoping that by some miracle, my son is called in. I was wanting to hear from other parents who have been in my situation and how things played out in the end so thank you so much for sharing.

Hi, i know at least 2 families offered 8+ place yesterday will not take KCS if they can secure places in SPJ or WUS. So chances the list will move if they didn't massively over offer.

Thanks organiccoffee for the information. I am wondering how big or small the reserve list typically is as the school isn’t providing me with any information. Do schools usually over offer?

I hear they tend to over offer although may not be massive compared with 7+.

Thanks for your response. Seems like it’s all a waiting game now. My son has applied for St Paul’s, WUS, Kings, Wetherby and Dulwich. We are flexible with moving wherever he gets selected. Do you have any opinion on Dulwich vs Wetherby?

Any updates? We are also on 8+ waiting list for Sept 2021 intake - have all the schools released their offers yet?

Aba1 · 04/02/2021 07:47

My son is still on the waiting list. While it has moved for 7+, I am not sure it did for 8+. SPJ exam is yet to happen.

Thanks Aba1, i had not realised St Paul’s had still not done their exam! Gosh what a mess, are there any updates when St Paul’s will be doing their exam / sending offers? (We’ve only applies to KCS)

Aba1 · 04/02/2021 09:54

SPJ exam is on 27th Feb and they will send offers by 3rd March. The fact that KCS list didn’t move post Westminster exam is a bit disheartening.
