School previously earmarked for closure

Currently home educating DS4, Yr1. I've been struggling to find a school as there is a shortage of spaces, apart from our nearest school which is no longer an option (long boring backstory but DS3 EHCP issues).

Applied and failed to get a space at next nearest schools.

There is a school that's just about doable logistically, but LA has tried to close it in last couple of years. Very undersubscribed and in debt. LA basically caved into public pressure but warned it wasn't out of the woods.

It's now been taken over by an academy (this year) but I'm not sure if that means it's properly saved.

If hate to start him at a school for it to shut within a couple of years.

Would joining a MAT really mean it's going to stay open?

There are no guarantees but the MAT probably would not have taken it on if they didn’t think they could turn it around. The finances will be better if the other schools in the MAT have reserves which will cover any debts the school has until it can balance the books.

What is the birth rate like in the area?

We had schools that had been shut now reopened because of the population increase...

decorhate Thank you, I know there's no certainties but I was concerned it was a a roundabout way for it to be closed without the LA having to do it.

RandomMess In the area I live in there's a massive shortage of school spaces so it's quite at odds with our local situation.

This particular school is in a very small village with not much housing, just outside of a town with 3 big primary schools. This particular school has a max capacity of 98 but only has about 50 on roll. I'm guessing the land around the village is well protected greenbelt, as nearly everywhere else is overdeveloped.
