Hi,

My DD Is due to start Reception next year and I am currently in the process of researching the schools in our local area, namely Shoeburyness in Southend-on-Sea. Can anyone recommend any of these schools or even just provide their experiences with them?

-Friars Primary School and Nursery
-St. George's Catholic Primary School
-Bournes Green Infant School
-Great Wakering Primary Academy
-Barling Magna Primary Academy

Would be most grateful.

You can compare stats on there. On the council’s website, you’ll be able to check admission distances for the last 3 years to see where you have a genuine chance of a place. It very rare to have more than a couple of realistic choices.

Thank you JoJoSM2. Yes, I have already looked at those stats. All very useful. I suppose what I'm after is anyone's personal experiences of these schools and what they would say about them. I did find some survey results on the Locrating website which were useful. I'm just trying to amass as much info as possible. And yes, my DD may not get into all those schools but I would like to get a picture of the schools in the local area.

Bournes green is highly sought after and heavily over subscribed many people consider it to be one of the best schools in the borough you would need to be living very close to stand a chance of getting in emphasis on results and rather pushy but brilliant school ...friars and st georges are both decent schools I do not know much about the others.. hinguar school also shoeburyness had excellent results last year I think it even beat bournes green school by a few points so that is something to consider but again heavily oversubscribed so it all depends on your "catchment " to stand any chance at the ones considered the "best "

If you need any other info my child is at a school in the borough & I know lots about many of the schools in southend westcliff leigh ect

Hi Pienmash2,

Thank you for your very helpful response. My catchment school is actually Friars, with St. George's also close by. All the surrounding schools have 'good' Ofsted ratings but I've been told to take those with a pinch of salt. What you say about Bournes Green does seem to chime with what I have heard so far. I think we would have the slimmest of slim chances getting in there. I also listed the Wakering/Barling primaries because my wife grew up there and we know the area and they don't seem to be heavily oversubscribed.
