Moving during application process

Hello all, first time posting here!

Just after some advice. My son is due to start reception in September 2021, we are currently living in London and have put our flat up for sale with a view of moving to Milton Keynes and buying a house.

Due to Covid, the flat is not selling as quickly as we would like so we haven't been able to make the move yet. As I understand, the deadline for school applications in January 15th 2021 so we have the following options:

  1. Rent a place in Milton Keynes and move there and just wait for the London flat to sell whenever it does - downside is that this would obviously incur significant extra costs.

  2. Just wait for this flat to sell and buy a house there, very little chance this would happen before the application deadline so would be a late application.

There may be other options here as the whole situation around moving during the application process is a little confusing, just wondering what your opinions would be on how to approach this?

Thanks!!

Ideally you need to be living in Milton Keynes before the application deadline. If you aren't, they will use your London address for admissions purposes which means it is unlikely you will get a school in Milton Keynes in the initial allocations. You would have to apply after you moved and take whatever was available, which may well be an unpopular school a long way from home.
