I'm brainy me but I don't 'do' maths

What does this mean?

Pics of digital displays (thrilling) and then a digit is underlined in each and you have to say what the value is.

E.g. .473 has the 4 underlined.
so, what actually is the value of 4 in this case I mean I know what it is but how do you show this?

0.4 or 4 tenths

It is a fraction of 10 so .4 is really 0.4 or 4/10ths or 2/5ths

In that case the answer is four tenths.
It is not a fraction.
It's about place value.
ie does the 4 mean 4, or 40 or 400 or 0.4 etc

I'm guessing you didn't mean to put a point before the 473? Surely your 7 year old doesn't have homework about tenths? He is doing very well if he does!

Ahh, you see if they had asked for it written as a fraction then this woul dmake some kind of sense to me but as it asks for the value to be written I don't get it. Surely it can't be so simply obvious as adding the zero??

Example 2 is: 362 and 6 is underlined.

The value of the 6 is 60 - it's 6 tens.

the . is definitely there! She is year 3 hasn't a clue tbh.She only just managed the writing 2 1/4 metres as cm.

Write a note on the bottom of the work saying she found it difficult!

I'd make her a table with headings of
Hundred Tens Units . Tenths Hundredths Thousandths on it
ten write out the numbers with the decomal point lined up so she can read off the place value
