Ds2 ( age 4) has come home tonight with and ORT redaing book. He cannot read yet ( barely recognises his own name) and quite rightly, this book has not got any words in it - its a stage 1 'biff and chip stories' book.

But I have had no explanation from the teacher how to approach a book with no words- Do I explain to ds what is going on the book, or does he lead me- giving me his interpretation of the story.
also- if there are no words- how does he learn to read?

sorry if this seems a bit odd- ds1 could read before he started school so this is all new to me, I want to help ds2 as much as I can, but only if I am doing it right- I dont want to confuse him.

thanks in advance.

this is about the structure of books, telling a story with pictures and enjoying reading. get him to tell you the story, talk about the pictures, just enjoy it together. When he gets some sight vocabulary then he will start to read books with words in!

Also get him to predict what he thinks will happen next. x
