My LG has just started Reception. I haven’t received education in this country so just wanted to know how things progress in here. They have started with phonics and from my understanding they will be doing oxford reading tree or songbirds phase 2.

Could someone please share how it progresses in each year?

Do they learn any language Eg Spanish or French

When do they start having ‘computers’ sessions

Anything and everything that you know, if you could please share...thanks so much xx

They don't do languages until KS2 generally, so year 3, computers used throughout rather than specific lessons. Reception is a play based year - it should just be lots of play with educational activities based around it.

White rose maths has pretty detailed schemes of learning you can look at, e.g. reception is here whiterosemaths.com/reception-sol/ . Your school may not use white rose but it might still be helpful to give a general idea of the level and rough content - you can look at the schedules of learning for later years to see how it progresses.

Does your school put curriculum statements up anywhere on the school website, that would tell you what they will cover each year? Ours are well hidden so it's worth digging on the website to check.

Otherwise, as others have suggested, do have a look on your school website or request a curriculum map from the school directly, which should give details of what your DC will be doing.

I think it might depend a bit on your school. My dd went to the computer room once a week after Christmas in reception, but obviously they can't do that at the moment with the bubble system/restrictions. She has learnt some very basic French in nursery and this was also done in reception but very simple words for greetings and colours and numbers.

Do they go through any ‘tests’? I know there is something (?sats) in year 2 and 11. What about rest of the years? How do we know how they are doing as compared to rest of peers? They come home with a reading diary. Is that all? There is also something called DB primary. Not sure what it is haven’t got a login yet...

You don't get to know how they are doing compared to the rest of their class but you will get to know if they are ARE (meeting their Age Related Expectations).
Schools take into account their age on any assessments throughout their school careers and marks are adjusted accordingly.
