Hi, my dd has just started reception and initially was going to come home for lunch, due to special needs. However she settled in well and ate packed lunch for first week. Now she has stopped eating anything and tells you she won;t eat anything. She wolfs it all when she gets home.

I am sure noone watches what they eat with packed lunches and was wondering if they get watched more when having cooked dinners and if anyone gets feedback if their child is not eating well.

How does it work for other ppl lo's. any ideas welcomed.

Hi my ds has just started in reception he was on packed lunches for the 1st few weeks, i also noticed he was eating less & less & would start eating it when we got home, i changed him to hot dinners & he is really enjoying having them.

They do all sit in the hall, they have packed lunches one side of the tables & dinners the other side, there is a teacher who watches them & encourages them to eat & also reports back to ds's classroom teacgher if they are struggling.

I would put her on school dinners & see how you get on, my ds is a fussy eater at home but school has been encouraging him to eat & it works.

Maybe you could ask the teacher if anyone watches & if they could give you feedback on what she eats & how it goes?

Is there anyone you could ask about it? Does she have a TA or learning support assistant in the class who could perhaps see whats going on at dinner time?
Do the dinner ladies encourage them to eat?
Could there be another sort of problem do you think?

a few of my daughters friends did this in reception (ie not eat their lunch) turned out they were too excited about going out and playing ! They settled down after about a week and started eating again.

It is worth asking if she could have someone look in on her .

My ds did this in reception (last year) and so did a lot of the others in his class. I Spoke to his teacher (as did the other mums) I dont know what they did but he started eating everything. When I asked him how come he was eating everything he said he was told to and he can only leave one thing! (he never does) so it is really worth speaking to the teacher.
