Shall I prepare a raincoat for a reception kid?

Hi, I just moved to England a couple months ago and my son has started reception this week. The newsletter from school says that the kids will spend as much time as possible outdoors, including rainy days. I am wondering whether I should buy him a proper rain coat like fisherman's coat, or just any waterproof puffer jacket will do. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Proper raincoat. Like Go Outdoors, or Regatta.

DD just had a puffer jacket. If they are outside in proper rain they are usually under cover. I might get her a raincoat in the summer for when it's hot and wet, although didn't this summer, but I don't think it's worth it now when it will start to get colder quite soon.

Proper, longish raincoat. Wet trousers are horrible.

Proper raincoat. My DS has been back in school (P1, Scotland) for a few weeks and after the first couple of days I bought him a really good regatta one with a proper hood. We walk to school most days so it's essential!

We bought puddle suits for the reception and nursery children at our school.
