Wirral Primary Schools - Opinions

Hi,

We are in the process of moving up to the Wirral from the South East. I am seriously hoping we will be up by the end of the year, in time to apply for a primary place for my son, due to start at school in September 2021. We are moving to the Prenton/Oxton area, and we are not religious (so I'm not sure if this will totally discount the faith schools?). Does anyone have any advice on best (or worst!) schools in the area? Which to absolutely avoid if we can?? Is it common to get a place at a school, that isn't your 'catchment' school, if you are still very close?

It's so difficult going purely off Ofsted reports etc. as I know there is much more to a school than that, but without any friends up there who are at that stage yet, I'm finding myself totally over thinking it and worrying if we've made a wrong decision with the location of the house! Any advice would be appreciated!!

Hi, hope you’re both good. Realise this is an old thread now but I’m in exactly the same position as you were! Moving back to the Wirral from London and son starting school September 23. Will also be Oxton/Prenton way. Any advice you have on schools would be so so appreciated. Hope things have gone well for you since your move. Xxx

Prenton Prep school has a very respected Head, just received the highest possible rating for its academics and pastoral care in its inspection (summer 2022) and is currently undergoing a big refurbishment: new five aside Astro pitch, full IT fit out for staff and kids, new nursery coming. Our friend's have their kids there and are hugely impressed. It also was rated as the 45th best Primary in the country by the Times (out of thousands) in December. A great school, and well worth a visit.
