Can anyone recommend some beginner readers with cute/ old fashioned illustrations?

The Jelly and Bean stories by Marlene Greenwood were lovely and helped my son. Illustrations are simple and lovely.

What do you mean by old fashioned illustrations and what level beginners are you looking for?

We have a load of the Puddle Lane reading books from the 1980s picked up on Ebay. They have adult words on one side of the page and simpler words for kids on the other side which my kids absolutely love. They aren't phonics based though, so either need a reasonable phonics knowledge or to be the type of learner who isn't phased by irregular words / sounds they haven't learned yet.
