Moving primary schools in year - Watford advice

Long story short , COVID19 has meant we are only moving to a new area on 31st Aug and can’t apply for school until I get proof of new home. We are moving to St Albans road, North Watford and the nearest school is parkgate junior (0.3) miles away. As it’s outstanding is it even worth me applying given distance is rule 5 ?? Could people have also moved away from the area and so there are spaces or have I really left it too late ?? Then my second two options are beechfield and grove but these are academies and I never read anything good on academy’s. I’m not even going to bother with Nascot. Any insight or advice most welcome. I did subscribe to locrating which gives me 18/19 data which is a guide I guess. In the event we got a poorly performing school, how often do parents win appeals ? I’m only 0.4 miles from Knutsford which looks to be under performing. Thanks in advance !

Here’s the list of schools with places available in September. Get a place at the one most acceptable to you and then get on the waiting list for your preferred schools.

Beechfield is lovely. The head teacher is great.

I’ve heard pretty bad things about The Grove and I know lots of people are removing their children from there.

Don't write a school off just because it's an academy! Some academies are fabulous!

Please can I ask how you got on with the schools?
We are moving to Wd25 in July so I won’t be able to apply until then and I have 3 kids to apply for 😅

I was told differently about Beechfield the other day but Orchard Primary, down the road from it, is meant to be good.
