Chigwell School Admission Process - Advice Needed

Hi - I am looking for some advice on the admission process for Chigwell School specially at the 4+ and 7+ stages.
Our middle son is a late summer baby so will only just turn 4 before September term and is young for his age, as quite a lot of boys are. I guess he won’t be on par with children who are old for their the year. Has anyone had any success with getting a place in such a scenario?

Also can I child apply for a plaace outside of the 4+ and 7+ process. For example, if my son got a place in reception, is there any chance of our oldest who is about to enter Yr1 applying and interviewing with the school or would she have to wait until 7+?

I really appreciate your feedback
Thank you!

Hi I wonder about 4+ exam too. My child is also a summer born and will apply the school next year. Could you please suggest if the exam is so competitive? I mean is it very hard to enter the school. Is it oversubscribed?

Thanks a lot

My daughter took the 4+ assesment and was succesful, and is now at Chigwell. It seemed very relaxed and supportive, with some reading and number work (following along) and some story engagement. They only compare like for like (so children born in the same month), being a late summer baby shouldn't disadvantage.

My nieces entered the school outside of the normal entry points, when my sister returned from living abroad. They will allow it if there is space. Their first choice was Bancroft, but they only had space for one child, whereas Chigwell could offer them both a place so they went there.

I went to there myself and have subsequently applied for my son and they said they will accept outside of 4+ and 7+ admissions.

@Roasted02 and everyone else who applied for Chigwell. Can you tell me if you still feel Chigwell was the best school?

Sorry to revive an old thread! I’m just so confused. My child has been offered 7+ place but I got some reason think WGP or St Aubyns would be better. On paper obviously Chigwell is the best one. I suffer extreme anxiety so always doubt every decision.

Can’t compare because I have no experience at the other schools but it was an amazing experience in 99-06 and still same great standards now. No brainer for me but perhaps I’m biased

Hi Roasted 02. I have moved my daughter from St Aubyns ( she attended the nursery year), to Chigwell (she took the 4+). I would say that Chigwell is in another league in terms of the care for the children, attention to detail and academic standards. I had a pretty bad experience at St Aubyns, with some quite rude comments when I told them my daughter had been succesful at 4+ (you'd think they'd be happy). We also had an offer from WGPS at the beginning of last year, but she was already at Chigwell and very settled. Also the advantage of not having to sit the 7+ and 11+ is very appealing to us, as long as things continue to go well.

@Coldilox hi i know this is a very late message but my son did not get into Chigwell for 4+ unfortunately. Just wondered as you mentioned your nieces got into Chigwell mid year.. how did they manage to get in?
