When did you hear about waiting list offers?

We missed out on DD’s 1st choice school by metres. We find out soon where we are on the waiting list and I know that this can go and down.

Obviously this is a bit different this year and fewer people might accept their private school places and move house etc.

I was just wondering when you found out about a waiting list offer for your child?

Hi this really is a how long is a piece of string question. I know people who waited a week and someone who waited 2 years. So very hard to say sadly. Hope you do get in via the list

Good luck! 🍀

We're top of the waiting list for our first choice school. I'm not sure whether or not to be hopeful!

Ooh, I was just coming on to look for information on this.

We're on the waiting list for our first choice. I'm not overly hopeful, but we didn't miss out by far... and I have heard that more parents are applying to defer entry this year (due to children missing out on time at preschool due to lock down). It's also a school in quite a wealthy/expensive area, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of the children (potentially) may be going to private school instead.

Tomorrow is "second offer day" in our area, and after that we can contact the LA to find out what our place on the waiting list is. I'm really curious to see where we rank! Part of me hopes that we're way down the list so I can just write it off TBH.

But what I'm wondering is... if "second offer day" also involves offers for those who have asked to be on the waiting list (as well as people who applied late). So if some of the children offered placed in the first round have declined their place, are these places offered to the children already on the list first?

@Marahute

On the second offer day the offers will go to everyone on the waiting list after the published criteria of admission. It won't matter when you went on the waiting list so it like a supermarket queue of first come first serve if that makes sense? A child can go on the waiting list today and become the 1st on the list because according to the admission criteria they are the one who are next for admission. This is why on this forum you often see people adding a cautious you canngonup and down on the list. It depends on who is ahead of you on the list not when you all arrived on the list

I hope this makes sense

We got a place through waiting list for our DS in June, but we are in a high mobility area. Most of the people who move into and out of our area are on short term contracts (so they won't be choosing not to move, this year) but I imagine we are unusual in that.

We sat at number one on the waiting list until the January of DS's first year of school, which is when we moved as I'd known a friend's DS sit there without ever getting a place.

Depends on where you live and how transient the area is. After second round offers went out we moved to No 1 on the waiting list. We finally got offered a place the last week of summer term (end July) for a September start. We live in a fairly transient area with 1-2 children leaving each school year from my son's class.
