What's the chances - primary waiting lists

Hi

Dd is no 2 for our 1st choice, 3rd for our 2nd choice and 5th for our third choice. Do you think she stands a chance? I'm starting to worry & really don't want to send her to the allocated school.

Depends on the pan number. 2 places in an intake of 30 will have less of a chance mid the intake was 90.

I think there may be some movement but much later than normal (even into the new school year) as people have been unable to buy and sell houses or complete moves due to the virus. Once things get moving again you may start to see movement in the waiting list

Impossible to say, though it's not unknown for children at our oversubscribed school to simply not turn up come September without any advance notice, meaning we could offer the place(s) to another child. Parents often resign themselves to the school they've been offered in the end, so don't take up waiting list places when they come up. Obviously your place on the waiting list can go down as well as up, but that being said, I wouldn't give up hope, but prepare to be patient.

Last year I was first on the waiting list for my first choice school. No movement. So we arranged visits at our second choice school before the summer term ended, took DS to see it and all was good. Bought £60 worth of uniform, as you do. Then got a call THE DAY BEFORE term started to offer me a place. And then they sounded shocked when I said I didn't want it. But I couldn't have swapped him the day before, money aside.

In all honesty, the school we got given was the better school and DS has fitted in fab. I've made some good friends with the other parents and DS loves it there.

Definitely possible. Most likely to happen 1 week into September.

Oh yeas the PAN number would be helpful. 1st choice is 60 the other 2 are 30....

I keep hearing about places being offered just before term starts or even that week and the thought of it sounds so stressful! I would definitely take the place if offered though as the school we have been given is quite far from us so not convenient at all for work & nursery run etc.

I think many parents are considering deferring a year - children don't have to go to school until they're five and I know the virus is putting people of sending them into reception in September. For that reason you might have a good chance this year!

Thanks lucie - yes I did wonder if that could potentially work in our favour but also think many families that might have chosen private school may not this year. Will just have to be patient and see how it all plays out I suppose.
