8+ 2021 boy day schools - London

Hi all for those who have just gone through this in 2020 I would appreciate any thoughts on recommendations for London boy day schools (and also any co ed). Lastly how every found the 8+ process and if you all used tutors to get in (no judgement just need to understand if I need to be realistic and get cracking with this or if you just prepared at home) .

8+ tends to be more competitive than 7+ because fewer places and higher attainment expected. Parents can tutor own child but you’d need to be diligent about it and do your research. At this level, the materials are not difficult. Sussex House/KCS/WUS/SPJr are all popular choices and often boys who didn’t get a space at 7+ double-down for 8+. Westminster Cathedral Choir School also has 8+ entry. We used a tutor for our son, who sat 8+ a few years ago, and received offers from the 2 schools sat. We still had to be hands on, though, but the tutor provided invaluable structure and guidance.

Which part of London are you in? DS went thru 8+ at one selective indie in S.East & had an offer. He goes to state primary & no tutor but he enjoys reading & fine with Maths. Used Bond & CGP books over few weekends across 2-3 mths.
