Streaming bubbles

It seems like (from WhatsApp group chat) that school have streamed the kids academically into the bubble groups. Is this standard practice? I know it’s a petty concern given the pandemic, but worried my kid is going to hate going to school now as won’t be with close friends.

We have split our Year 1 into 2 groups of 15, we have used ability to help sort them. There will only be one adult with each group and trying to pitch and plan lessons that children can get on with reasonably independently is much easier this way.

That makes sense. I know some schools have streamed across all Year 1 classes, so even more differentiation! Hope the kids adjust to the set up - it’s hard when they’ve mainly been looking forward to going back so they can see friends tho.

Bubbles are according to ability for us as well, across classes (with the lowest ability bubble being the smallest)

NeverTwerkNaked · 31/05/2020 19:46

Makes sense to me that they would do that

They can't play with friends anyway - they have to play on their own at 2m distance.
At our school the teacher isn't marking or taking work in, they take it home at the end of every day. It is more about well being than learning new stuff anyway it has to be something they can do on their own as the teacher needs to keep their distance.

@LavenderLilacTree that is not true! social distancing isn’t required within bubbles! this include teachers within the bubble

My year 6s are being divided between me and a relatively inexperienced Year 5 teacher. I’ve given myself the children who struggle academically so that they get the best chance to catch up. Obviously I’ve also tried to mix boys + girls and given everyone at least one close buddy.

We actually got asked to name a couple of friends that our child would like to be with as they are conscious of trying to enable some friendship groups. They said they couldn't guarantee it obviously but it was a consideration
