Secondary school admissions appeals

Hi

My daughter is The only Child in her school year not to be offered a place at any of our preferred choice... we live across the road from the catchment area for one and the fact she isn’t baptised affects the other.... any advice?. We’re devastated that she’ll be split from her peers and attend a school in an area she doesn’t know. Also, we work shifts (NHS) so rely on Granny for childcare- she lives 5 mins from both schools we applied for! Any help or advice appreciated!

We have logged appeals for both schools which will be lead at the end of June.

Make sure that you are down on the waiting list for all schools that are your preferences, even if the LA say it is automatic. Phone and check , ask them where you are on the waiting lists.
Sorry but you appear unfortunately to be in one of those areas where if the siblings level is high you can miss out on places. Your best bet is to start planning for your appeal by looking for other good reasons for wanting a place at the schools. Being the only one without a place in the year and needing gran to act as child care are not reasons that will get you a place at the school. You need to be highlighting all the really good things the school does and how that will benefit your daughter.

What was reason given for no place at catchment school? If you live close was the distance used correct? Which category was her application considered in? Did you only list 2 preferences? Childcare issues will not support a secondary appeal.
