Oxfordshire Private Schools

Hello. Really hoping someone will be able to help. We currently live in central London and considering a move to Oxfordshire. We have two sons, 3 and 5. Our 5 year old is in reception at a very academic private school and is thriving.

I want him and my other dc to attend a very good, caring and academic private school, however don't even know where to start. We would prefer to be near south Oxfordshire but open to other parts of Oxfordshire if schools are better. Can you please kindly recommend private pre-prep/prep schools in the area? Thank you!

cranford house would suit what you are looking for, I think. (link included to school website). It is in South Oxfordshire (the prep and senior school is in Moulsford, the nursery is Cholsey- the 2 sites are around a 5 minute drive from each other.)

Thank you! Will check the school.

Do you have any information on Abingdon Prep or Manor prep? Which are good feeder schools into MCS?

If you want them to go to MCS I don't think you will want to live too far out of Oxford. The traffic is horrific on the ringroad.

Chandlings would probably fit the bill if you want to be south of Oxford.

I'm not sure Cranford House would be as academic as you are after.

oh yes, If you are looking for a very academic school then cranford house might not suit. It is a good all round school however

For an academic prep and then mcs, you'll want one of the Oxford prep schools rather than an outskirts. Unless you're happy with the travel? Mcs junior take them from Y3. Chandlings otherwise which is a few minutes to the ring road.

Abingdon Prep feeds into Abingdon senior and doesn't prepare for other school entrance exams.

Thank you! Which are the best pre-preps that feed into MCS?

Are there any other schools that I need to look at that are academic?

When reading about Chandlings school I have seen lots of mixed reviews.

mcs takes boys from Y3. I know a few boys went there from local state schools.

Any views on Abingdon prep?

I’ve heard Abingdon Prep is great if you want to go on to Abingdon.
If you are set on MCS and he’s exceptionally bright then he will get in from any decent prep and the state primaries Combe and Kingham send plenty.
Kitebrook Prep is also a great school and many children go onto MCS.
