So we received our offer for our first choice today and we are really pleased, just wondering what usually happens now, do we get a letter from school etc, clearly too much time on my hands in lockdown and just wondering

Yeah you'll just get a letter from the school with arrangements of a visit day, dates, uniform list etc

Quitthat · 16/04/2020 22:46

I think you have to formally accept the offer? Otherwise they assume you don't want it...

Not sure how it's done in different places, whether you contact the school or the LEA... should be in the info with the offer?

Smellbellina · 16/04/2020 22:47

I haven’t had anything from the LEA but have had an email from the class teacher.

Starface · 16/04/2020 22:52

Here you have to formally accept in order to secure the place

This will depend on the policy of the home LA. In some areas, the assumption is that the allocated school is accepted, because at the point of allocation, not to accept would result in one's DC having no place for September.

Well that certainly shouldn’t have happened. The school should not be contacting parents until they have confirmation of a place from the LA.

In the normal course of events you might not hear anything from the school until soon after the May/June half term (though some schools send out info much earlier). Some schools will do nursery visits to 'feeder' pre-schools, especially maybe if they have more than one reception class.
Given the current circumstances I'd expect detailed information to be later this year if anything.

I applied online and the email told me I have to email the school that offered the place to confirm if I wish to accept it or not.
I did that and the school replied saying thank you and they will be in touch when school reopens with more information.
Also if you haven't already done so I believe you need to provide proof of address.
The school my son is going to have their own supplementary application form that parents fill in alongside the form online, I submitted all my documents with the form so I don't need to worry about it.
We went to the open day last year so have already seen the school and have the necessary information on uniform and so on. Not sure if it'll be the same information I already have that I receive but will wait and see.

I think it’s a blip from the LEA rather than the teacher. My only concern is if I am supposed to confirm the place as others have said. I’ll email CT back next week.

BendingSpoons · 18/04/2020 08:23

Here we don't have to accept the place or provide proof of address. It all done online and I assume linked in with our council tax account (also online) so if those match, they don't need additional information.

Thanks everyone, will look forward to getting something through the post
