Depends what you want it for.
I have a mix
My dc are grown up now. I have photo albums of photos I've printed out every year, but we also used to do scrap books in the summer holidays - putting in leaflets or train / bus tickets and pictures they'd drawn and little things they wrote (labeling their pictures mostly) - as 'diaries' of their Summer holidays. I'll be honest, they used to do it at the time to occupy them for the parts of the day / week we were at home, but they LOVE looking back at them now.

I've got my 2 doing a diary/news writing thing daily.
I sold it to the oldest as like being Samuel Pepys because they were living through history. I would do photos too of I could get my printer working.
I try with every summer holiday too coz I loved doing it as a child and mine kids live reading my diaries now....they usually manage a couple of days max!

Sorry - Covid-19/Isolation on the brain....
Realised you mean normal memory book.
My mum did a photobook for me for Christmas & they loved it. I think I want to do an annual one now.

Photobooks which you can design online are very durable. But scrapbooks and traditional photo albums can be too. All through my childhood, my mum put photos in albums, and now has an impressive collection to show for it.

If you use a scrapbook, use strong glue to stick stuff in, rather than Sellotape, which tends to decay after a few years.
