Reception class - do I need to put name labels in pants, vests and socks too ?

So hoping the answer to this is no.

We've been asked to provide a sports kit of plain light coloured shirt and plain dark coloured shorts but no mention of whether the kids take off their vests and socks to do PE.

I suppose I was going to label pants anyway as ds1 will be having to change those if he has an "accident" which we've been told to expect at one time or another.

I don't actually remember plimsolls or trainers being mentioned so I'll have to check the written instructions again, when I find them again (if only I knew where I'd put them 2 months ago).

Er, no, I didn't and don't. Mine wear same socks for PE. And I reckon I could live with losing the odd pair.

Don't bother labelling pants either - if they do have an accident, the teachers put their clothes in a plastic bag and hang it on their peg for you to collect. There would have to be a mass wee-in for stuff to get mixed up!

I can take the loss of the odd sock if it comes to it, but they never have lost them. Ditto pants: not lost a pair yet. (Dd forgot to put some on in the first place one morning, but that's another story.)

PE was done in bare feet at our school for much of reception. By the time they got round to wearing the plimsoles I'd bought, they didn't fit.

Except DD has named socks in her PE bag for when she wears tights. But otherwise (and if DSs) they don't take them off.

I didn't label anything for nursery or pre-school, just relied on my memory and a sense of "who cares !" if something went missing, invariably it turned up again a week or so later.

I did socks but not underwear !

I'm racking my brains here, but I'm pretty sure that DS didn't so anything in Reception where there was a big jumbled pile of pants and they had to work out whose was whose.

Ds has different socks for PE so socks are always off and on. DS's socks are labelled simply because you have to get them from the uniform place and to get there you have to drive about 2 miles and back in time about 35 years and I can't be arsed to do it that often. Otherwise I would be daringly insouciant and not bother labelling them.

I never did, and not doing so this year either.

i do shoes, did socks, only to separate my dd's from each other! that's all.

IMO pants and knicks should stay on (child protection etc) ... socks may be a different issue but underwear certainly should not be "left in a pile" (unless swimming type activities take place)

vests and socks may be useful - thinking changing for PE or something...

oh, just to add - I got Cash's shoe stickers from Clarks - stick on, stick on the "topping" sticker and hey presto - dead easy!

and to add that just cos he may have an accident, doesn't mean he will leave his undies in a pile somewhere - a member of staff will supervise his changing and most likely put them in a bag / his school bag for hometime

I'd name the plimsolls as it is SO difficult to find a lost plimsoll as they all look the same.

Also..... did someone MEAN to say teacher (as in dealing with accidents) or did you mean the TA?

I didn't label socks/pants because I could bear the loss of the odd one. And none have ever been lost, well apart from one sock which subsequently turned up in the sleeve of his sweatshirt. Label shoes and pumps. DS once came home in two left shoes of the same style but different size, then complained because I made him change into his sandals before he played on the park because he would look silly.
