socks with Plimsolls?

Hello all,
ds1 will start reception next Tuesday and I was wondering whether plimsolls in this country (am from Germany originally) are worn with or without socks?
They ones I've bought are a bit on the big side but socks might just solve that problem

Shops don't seem to sell plimsolls in half sizes he's an 8 1/2 and the 8's are a bit too small and the 9's a touch too big

Start Right sell plimsoles in John Lewis in 1/2 sizes.

our school makes the children take off socks with plimsolls (which annoys me because inevitably they will rub a blister by the end of PE if they are a tad too big).

My two say they have to do pe without socks too, that is unless they go outside apparently.

Our uniform list said nothing about socks for PE but I took a flyer and put some in last year as I had no desire to be washing smelly plimsolls - and it turns out they do use them (and mandate what colour they should be - parents supposed to know that by telepathy, apparently ). My DM is that they change their socks for PE, but their uniform is either thick knee length socks (boys) or tights (girls) so ankle socks for PE make perfect sense to me.

DC wear their everyday socks with plimsolls in reception. Local independent shoe shop does half sizes.

With socks, they will probably rub if not.

Our uniform list asks for white socks for PE. They wear grey normally.
