Claygate primary - thoughts and opinions greatly received

Hi all,
I was hoping for some opinions on claygate primary as we might fall in the catchment. I was wondering about the PTA etc and what it is exactly that’s stoping it from being ‘outstanding’? Also, which other state schools my daughter would be in as we’re moving to south claygate way. Many thanks!

I'm not that familiar with Claygate Primary but the whole Esher area has more mixed housing than you would expect & some of the primaries like Cranmere aim to retain their good status rather than be outstanding. Claygate along with Thames Ditton primary, HW (Hinchley Wood) & long Ditton feed into HW secondary which is very popular.

Esher Church of England primary feeds into Esher High but many parents at that school move to the private sector. I wouldn't worry too much about good v outstanding but would find out which secondary school your house would be in catchment for,

Claygate has a good new(ish) Headteacher who is making changes, but the simplest reason they are not outstanding is here: www.compare-school-performance.service.gov.uk/school/125108/claygate-primary-school/primary

😱 I’m actually a primary teacher and I’m shocked rigid!!!! Those results are shocking, and especially for such an affluent area

Much depends on the cohort and without knowing the reasons behind the story the results have little meaning.

A few years ago (I think it was this school but might be wrong), there was a relatively high traveller community which might explain some of the lower scores. I don’t know whether they were ‘travelling’ or ‘fixed’ travellers. However, the attendance is above average. I don’t know if traveller attendance is reported as part of overall attendance - there’s a separate code for it on registers. So if they do have low traveller attendance, it would be hard to get the progress required.

That’s very interesting! Thank you!

The whole of Elmbridge has large pockets of lower income households. it definitely isn't all million pound plus housing and Range Rover evokes, although it can seem that way sometimes.

Although how that affects school results I don't know
