Chester primaries: private or state?

We’re moving to Upton Chester and looks like Upton Heath will be our catchment school, possibly Mill View. We are considering Kings or Abbey Gate college for infants. Is anyone familiar with these schools? Are the independents worth it over the state options? We are completely clueless and going off Ofsted and ISI reports!

Thank you!

You could depending on exactly where you live in Upton also be in the catchment for Upton Westlea or Acresfield Primary Schools. You need to check on the Cheshire West and Chester website where if you go onto school admissions you can see exactly where the catchment boundaries run. The issue is that the primary school population is increasing in Chester area, so if you were considering going to an independent school for infant years and then transferring to a state school in Juniors then you will have a problem because the schools will be full when you try to apply and you could be offered a school anywhere in the surrounding area. None of the 4 primary schools mentioned are bad schools.

You need to make a decision of all state or all independent for the primary years from 5 to 11 as a first step.
