Alternative Primary schools in SW London

Dear all,

Our DS attends a Forest nursery and we are looking for something similar going into primary school but really quite stuck! We are willing t move anywhere in London.

Is there is an alternative primary school in London? I am aware of Liberty Woodland but no chance of us getting in as we don't attend their nursery. Is there anything else like it? Is anyone setting one up? Don't mind private or state- any one had luck with flexischooling with any schools?

The London Acorn School in Morden Hall Park? Disclaimer - I don't know anyone who goes there, but I'm just aware it's there.

What’s the alternative bit you’re after? What don’t you like about other indies?

Two that come to mind would possibly be Horniman Primary in Honor Oak/Forest Hill and Dulwich Wood Primary. Nice places to live too.

The one the OP looked at is an independent school where children learn outdoors all the time. I was wondering what are the things she’s looking for in a school as quite a few indies I’ve looked at on the edge of London have extensive grounds, woodland with an adventure playground, outdoor classrooms, forest school, have a fab provision for Art or are quite different in other ways, eg very little homework. The one we put DS for even has kids camping in the grounds which my tour guide was massively excited about when we looked. None of the schools consider themselves ‘alternative’ but they are each have their own personality and aren’t traditional at all.

Hello @JoJoSM2, sorry, forgot to reply to you! We are looking for somewhere with lots of outdoor time, free play, creative and child led, no homework if possible. Would you mind sharing your findings with me? It seems what we are looking for is very similar to what you've seen.

Bumping this message up. We are considering going back to London after almost 4 years in Copenhagen and would love to find a primary school similar to the regular standard here: lots of outdoor activities, focus on play based learning, hopefully non religious, environmentally aware, and if it comes with a dollop of Spanish on the side it would be simply perfect (we are Spaniards, our daughter speaks Galician, Spanish and Danish, no English yet, other than counting to 10, bless her...)

just thought. Is "bumping up" even a thing anymore??? sorry, this is my first post here, and haven't been to an online forum in ages! so not up to date with the etiquette... Grin

I know this is an old thread but @carmenruibal and @M3ssiahMe - would you mind sharing which school you chose in the end?

(We were initially looking at different areas of London, but today I started on a school search and I’m not that keen on the options there - hence reading threads like this!)
