Writing averse DS2 needs help

DS2 is in Y5. He is bright and friendly, and has a good vocabulary and imagination. However, when asked to write he seems to really struggle. Last night he wrote up a recipe and instructions on a laptop and it took the best part of an hour, and reduced him to tears. I'm sure it doesn't help the writing comes easily to the rest of the family.

Looking for ideas to help him, otherwise he's going to get increasingly miserable over the coming years in education.

Following with interest as my DS1 (also Yr 5) is exactly the same. He's very bright and is a real bookworm but just can't seem to focus when it comes to written work. Teachers haven't offered much advise either.

Hi ScatteredMama my DS reads very slowly but enjoys it. I have contacted the teacher for some help, and if they have any ideas I'll share.

So it's a reading issue as well as a writing one? Both my DS and DD have Dyslexia. dyslexiagold.co.uk/DyslexiaScreeningTest think about taking this test because it is a possibility that your son might have Dyslexia if he reads slowly and finds writing difficult.

Well he reads slowly but doesn't appear to struggle. School tests (PIRA) show his reading to be in advance of his years. However I am beginning to wonder if dyslexia might be involved and will discuss it with his teacher.

Teacher has had a chat with him and he feels better about it, though he couldn't tell me what suggestions she had made! Have emailed, but she's not FT.
