High Wycombe primary schools

Hello, my daughter is starting primary school next September (2020) and I am so overwhelmed by all the school information! I was just wondering if anyone had any good recommendations for primary schools. We're going to visit Disraeli school, Hughenden school, cedar park and Naphill and Walters ash school! They all look nice in the own ways, and as this is my first time doing this I'm totally lost!

And recommendations or comments about any schools would be mostly appreciated.

Don't know any of those, but they are fairly widely dispersed. I would recommend going as close to home as possible. For instance, if you live closer to Disrali do you really want to be trecking to Hazlemere and back twice a day?

What is your catchment area school? Look at Bucks CC admissions for 2019 to see the distance schools admitted pupils. Some of them might just take catchment only so if you are miles away, you won’t stand a chance. You don’t get a free choice. You must look at the admissions criteria and weigh up your chances of getting into each school. However you must look at your catchment school. Bucks CC web site gives you a checking facility for this using your post code.

Hughendon and Naphill/Walters Ash are close. The latter serves the RAF base.

Yes we are closer to disraeli so that's our number 1 choice atm, I just haven't a clue about any of the schools in the area so just wanted to hear other parents options on them! Thank you both, I didn't realise cedar park was park if the RAF and yes hazlemere is a trek but I'd be happy to do it if it was a good school. I've looked at the admissions on the gov websites and all these schools said all admissions could be offered a place 🤷🏼‍♀️ so thought they were worth a look x

Naphill is the RAF base. The school there traditionally serves the base and the village but probably has quite a big turnover of pupils.

The Disraeli school is a large primary. They have an open morning on Friday 15 November. You would be quite close to Hughendon and I would definitely visit them. You would need to check that you have a chance of getting in though. Disraeli admits on distance so that’s easy to check. You also need to decide how far you want to travel and what school will you actually be able to get into if you do not live nearby. Also the smaller schools such as Hughendon will have a different feel to Disraeli. What do you prefer? Start going to open days and ask about the possibility of admission from where you live. It’s not worth applying to anywhere that takes DC from a small area that doesn’t include your home.

Okay thank you, yes I have a few open days booked. Unfortunately we couldn't make the one at Downley but she's not in the catchment area for that school so definitely wouldn't get in. Thank you for your help x

You must be quite close to Hamilton and High Wycombe CE too? Recommend visiting them. Also worth thinking about what you ideally want from a school, for example would you like to stand in playground and natter or is that your worst nightmare? Are you bothered about after school clubs? What size class/year/ school would be best for DC/your family? Do you need breakfast/ afterschool club as in some schools this is double the cost of at others. Do you need an attached pre-school? Do you need good SEN provision? If you can visit Xmas fayres at schools, it can help give you a feel for a school too. Good luck!
