Moving to UK in 2008 - Need recommendations for primary school in Beckenham area

Hello,

My family will be moving back to the UK in 2008 - most likely to Beckenham/ Bromley area in London. DD will be 7 then and so starting Year 3 (if I understand correctly?) in September 2008.

Any Mnetters living there, do you have any tips/ recommendations regarding primary schools?

As I understand it, at age 7 (having already been in school albeit in another country, we would need to apply directly to the school rather than the Bromley borough as happens when children first start school in Reception?)

Anyway any advice/ help with this would be most gratefully received - I know the area well having grown up there myself but of course schools' reputations change and I've not lived in UK for over a decade...

Also interested in hearing about nursery/ childminder recommendations as am currently expecting baby no 2 this autumn and may need to go back to work after moving back (to help pay ridiculous UK mortgate!!).

Thanks!

Don't know anything about Bromley, but if your child is going into Year 3, you may need to make a formal application as this is a standard entry point in some places (start of KS2/Juniors). The LEA website should have all the info you need.

You should also call the school as soon as they open in September, and they will be able to send you any forms you need before the magical closing date for applications. If the school is able to allocate its own place, they will probably be able to confirm it there and then.
