Primary school - not wanting to go

My 4 year old daughter has started saying she doesn't want to go to school only 1 month in.

She is behind in her considerably behind in her development and speech at present. I know she is saying she doesn't want to go because she is struggling with what is being asked of her and now she has "homework", it becomes obvious that she is struggling e.g. spelling / writing her name. I'm trying to make it fun and seem exciting with rewards at the end of the day, but it doesn't solve the underlying problem.

We are struggling with getting help externally and I have a meeting with her teacher today to state our concerns. It's really heartbreaking seeing her upset.

I'm not sure what help I can obtain by posting here, but just feel really lost at present...

My DD was delayed, but luckily is autumn born so it was less of an issue as she wasn't so far off the summer borns.

I wouldn't do the homework in Reception if it is adding additional stress.

What you could do is at other times encourage motor skills by doing mazes / dot to dot / colouring in / giant hamma beads.

If needed, go light touch with the reading (we used to read in the morning when less tired), e.g. just spot sounds etc. Lots of praise.

Tell the teacher she is struggling and despondent and see what they say.

We had the ReadWriteInc cards and used a letter box made from a cereal box (that we had done for SALT). We selected just a few of the sounds cards e.g. SATPIN and if she knew them she posted them in the box. Then we counted how many she could do. once she mastered the first lot we added in a few more, until eventually she could do the whole set. It made phonics fun.
