Applying for primary schools in 2 areas

Hi there does anybody know if you can apply for two primary school places at the same time? I’m living down South but planning to move back to Manchester, I’m uncertain of my move dates and ideally would like to apply in both areas for my sons school so I’m covered on both areas. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks In advance.

You need proof of address when you apply so can only apply from where you are living at the time.

As above. Primary application deadline isn't for another 4 months so you've got time to move for then if you're going to be renting. Selling and buying might be tricky.

I have had friends in this situation and it helps if you contact the relevant councils directly. Some are much more helpful than others. If the place you are moving to is less populated they might be more accommodating.

Thank you, I will contact both councils and see what they say. We have two addresses as we have a rented property due to my husbands work, we reside between the two at the moment.

The answer is that the LAs will only accept the address where child spends most of the school week evenings or if that is 50/50 the address where child benefit goes to.
No matter what schools you express a preference for it has to be via the LA where you are living.
