We're looking for a pre-prep in london for my son. Could anyone tell me which are the best? It doesn't bother if it's boys-only.

where in London?

London is huge! Need to narrow down, unless you are flexible to move anywhere.

Are you looking for a pre-prep specifically with intention to move him at 7+ or 8+? What are you thoughts longer term?

JoJoSM2 · 21/08/2019 10:41

I agree that London is huge and there is quite a choice.

This one is local to me (Sutton, zone 5 in south London). It goes from 3 to 13. It is a very traditional boys only school that's very academic.

You are likely to get suggestions that could be 2hrs apart! There are loads of good schools (all ages) in London - you need to say where 😊

Yep, need a bit more information.

  • How old is the child?
  • Where do you love?
  • British or International school?
  • Only a school up to age 7 or would up to 11 / 13 / 18 suit you?
CruCru · 21/08/2019 17:15

Sorry, where do you live?

JoJoSM2 · 21/08/2019 17:33

Hm... just had a look at state primary ranking on the londonprep website and it seems to miss out a few schools.

CruCru · 22/08/2019 10:42

Some of the content on there is quite old now. It’s also reasonably subjective.

It might also be worth getting hold of a copy of the Good Schools Guide for North London / South London. This has state and independent schools and splits them by area.

What does ‘the best’ mean to you? Destinations, scholarships, pastoral care, sports, class size etc. Everyone will have some criteria that they’ve prioritised in their school selection.

Based on another post they're looking in the Sloane Square area with a view to 7+/8+ entry to Sussex House. I personally would suggest GHS but apparently they've already dismissed the idea.
