Hook Heath Woking - state schools?!

Hi,

We have found a really lovely house in Hook Heath in Woking that seems to tick a lot of our boxes- bigger garden, potential etc. But what are our options in the way of state schools? Are the surrounding school catchments small? I can’t seem to find anything online about this. The Oaktree in St. John’s for example is the closest but it is still 0.8 miles away....

We are currently in Horsell but not in the catchment for the village school.
Really not sure what to do! Any advice would be much appreciated as I don’t know much about this area.
We aren’t catholic and would not currently be able to afford private schools. The house would be a stretch for us to do up over the years as our forever home.

Thanks in advance.

If you look on the website for Surrey school admissions they have a section on how places were allocated in previous years. That will give you an idea but it is obviously hit and miss each year as to which schools have places.

The link is for a distance calculator but you will also find on the website details of the allocations. Hope it helps.

Thank you @abczyx, that’s really helpful!
Such a difficult decision, although we are currently in a bit of a grey area re schools, so nothing to lose I guess!

Yes, there is a bit of a catchment black hole in this area unfortunately. Good luck!

On the plus side, the birth rate is dropping so it's much better now than it used to be as some of the schools in the area around may now have spaces. If you don't get in to Horsell/Goldsworth/Oak Tree, you could consider looking at Pirbright or Knaphill? Barnsbury is quite big and a bit marmitey but is probably close enough?

Its a black hole - you are likely to get shipped off to scythwood if all the others are full with kids living closer. bonus point is, its greaf for secondary

You would get in to Pirbright at KS2 I think, there are normally places and turnover is quite high because there are always a few military children in each year group and it's a lovely school. You probably wouldn't get for Reception though as it's too far. I guess Winston is your secondary option which is fine, probably more appealing than Hoe Valley.
