Last day of school = heatwave

It’s the last day of term for my two primary aged children tomorrow (Thursday). It also happens to be the hottest day of the year, predicted 34 degrees here in Kent. No fans or cooling equipment in classrooms. Do I keep them at home or send them in? It was awful today and it was 4 degrees cooler...

I’m sure the school are used to keeping kids cool in warm weather. This isn’t unusual weather for summer and yet every year it’s like people forget that it happened the year before. I’m sure they won’t miss much education-wise on the last day of term but it would be a shame for them to miss out socially.

Yes they haven’t mentioned wanting to stay home and I haven’t said anything to them. They’re quite resilient but a glass classroom can be utterly unbearable.

I would send them in with lots of ice in their water bottles.

Dunno about schools keeping them cool.
We can’t- all we can do is keep rooms open if they want to come in at lunchtime and encourage water.
It was horrible in my room yesterday. I take my own fans in but it doesn’t do much.

Our school also Kent is now closed tomo due to extreme weather, it's not predicted 39* here! But back open Friday for the last day!

icecreamsundae32 · 24/07/2019 20:21

Now predicted 39* that should say!

chloworm · 24/07/2019 20:48

Oh where is that icecream? We’re in East Kent
