School recommendations - North London ish

We are currently prepping our son for the 7+ at Habs boys, Highgate & UCS.
Giving the competitive nature and academic criteria for places at these schools, am looking for alternative options.
Can anyone recommend a good all boys or co ed school in North London area ish? Currently in Highgate but willing to move for the right school.
So grateful for any help at all. All very overwhelming

Otherwise if you are already considering a school as far out as Habs, look at manor lodge, edgegrove, orley farm?

IMHO I wouldnt bother with Manor Lodge School any more. It used to be top of its game with a very strong academic leadership. Its direction has recently changed with a big drive on the outdoor environment and the emphasis is unlikely to keep it in the running.
Radlett Prep has better focus

Merchant Taylor’s Prep and St Martin’s Northwood.

I would seriously disagree with the poster above about those schools that focus on outdoor learning as “losing their focus”. They are actually embracing the skills needed to be successful in all aspects of life not just the classroom. At 7 they are still very much children - you can have great academics AND lots of play.

Totally agree that a rounded education is important. Each element has its place and hopefully children are out of doors at home too! The problem is towards the top of the school the academic focus needs to be in line with the entrance exams of the senior schools (not where they pass from prep to linked senior school). My experience of 11+ transfer and getting places at MTs and Habs requires a prep to have strong academic leadership. Time will tell
