Girls school socks - odd uniform search here

Do such things exist? After school uniform knee length socks for girls in either grey ideally or white (won't stay white for more than a week) with a different colour or shade heel. DD2 struggles to get her socks on the right way around and it's the biggest help for her to do this - on weekends and holidays it's fine because I just selectively pick socks that tend to have a contrast heel, but it's a pain in the backside where school uniform is concerned.

Has anyone seen such a thing?

i haven't seen any, but could you get a few cheap pairs and then colour the heel with this pen?

slipperywhensparticus · 25/06/2019 20:24

I used to put a stitch in the back of dds tights in a contrast colour it worked for her?

Korvalscat · 25/06/2019 20:25

I've never seen any but hopefully someone will be able to help. Perhaps you could sew a few bright coloured stitches where her big toenail would go and a couple on the inside of her ankle - low down where it would be hidden by her shoe as a nee guide?

Korvalscat · 25/06/2019 20:26

New not nee

Use a sharpie and put dots on the heels. Recolour as necessary. Or put a tiny bow on them at the ankle that has to go at the back maybe?

CatalogueUniverse · 25/06/2019 20:42

These have a pattern on the sole

Not a different colour but my Son has ribbed socks and the bottom part of the foot isn’t ribbed so she could just make sure the ribbed part was in top.

TeamUnicorn · 25/06/2019 21:32

I feel your pain as I have exactly the same issue with my ds, luckily boys are a little easier with ankle socks. He is 11 but we pretty much still put his socks on for him. I am having to look for football socks for him for next year with the coloured heel as well.

Good luck in your search.

TeamUnicorn · 25/06/2019 21:39

Would something like these work? Not coloured but as a pp says no cable on the bottom so she might at least get them the right way up (That is about as good as it gets for us even with coloured heels)

Sadly the pattern on the sole ones will be too small for her (my kids have tiny feet), and we've tried the cabled pattern thing already - still totally bloody oblivious!

I might try the coloured stitch but knowing her sensory quirks she's likely to just complain about them feeling funny. Oh the joys of dyspraxia!

Did you see that the M and S ones go down to an infant 8.5 op? Pop them in the dryer and I bet they would go down to an infant size 7.

Korvalscat · 26/06/2019 19:44

If a stitch wouldn't work for your dd, what about a coloured blob made by permanent marker or even nail varnish?

These have writing on the bottom, would that help?

PantsyMcPantsface · 27/06/2019 09:43

Writing on the bottom might do the trick - thanks!

It's such an obvious one for accessible easy dressing uniform as well! M+S and co are missing a trick here!

What shoe size do you need?

LouiseHumphreys81 · 28/06/2019 06:37

They are called heel and toe socks, I bought some from Amazon for my son who struggles with socks. You might find some girls ones if you Google girls heel and toe socks.

Would these work? They are not ribbed on the sole.

Gryffindorwin2991 · 27/07/2019 13:01

Not knee length, but if your child has tiny feet like mine does, ankle socks may sit higher on the leg like they do on my girl:

stucknoue · 27/07/2019 13:18

There's a factory near me that makes custom socks. I buy socks from their factory store but they just might have something like this.

PantsyMcPantsface · 27/07/2019 16:47

Update - I've found some in Tesco that are black ankle socks with a coloured sole which seem to have worked-ish... not amazing as I'd like some knee length ones and prefer grey, but at least it's something that seems to point her in the right direction in terms of looking a little less like she's had a brawl in the uniform aisle on a morning!

PantsyMcPantsface · 27/07/2019 16:47

I've also suggested it to M+S to add to their easy dressing uniform range.

Good news you have found a solution. And hopefully marks will look into it. It can't be that hard a process seeing that you can get ankle socks galore in that style.

raindropsonwindows · 28/07/2019 19:37

I know you're looking for knee length socks but DD has white trainer socks from Asda which have contrasting heels.
Also, when she was in reception and I was over enthusiastic with the name tapes, I named her socks by ironing a name tape on the soles. She did once ask why she was the only one with name tapes on her socks but also said that it did mean she knew which way to put them on.
