Pre reception home visit

Hi all, DD has her reception teacher and TA coming for a home visit this week and I was just wondering if/how I should prepare? Apart from the obvious tidy up and clean, should I get some biscuits and cakes? Offer drinks and snacks? Make sure we're all on best behaviour and in our best Sunday clothes? (I joke of course) I'm just not sure of the ettiquite as DD is my first to attend school! Eek!

We had this two years ago. Don't go all out with cakes and drinks etc, they will be visiting a lot more homes that day.
When ours came I spoke to his teacher while the TA spoke to my little boy. It was nice to have a bit of time out of school as sometimes I feel like I'm bothering his teacher now as she's a million things to do, they spent about 15 minutes here

Do nothing except get dressed Offer them tea/coffee/water when they arrive. They want to see your dc in their normal habit. They won't stay long as they'll be doing a number of visits that day. It's a really nice way to meet the teacher so just relax and enjoy it!

Don't do anything! They will be there for about 10 minutes and have a load of others to see on the same day. I'm fairly sure hat the the whole point at least for our school was just to check we live at the address stated o the application.

Thank you, i wont bother whipping out my best china 😉 is there anything i need to ask? I have no concerns about DD and i'm quite certain she'll settle in fine, she has a couple of cousins at the school already. Don't want to come across as uninterested if I have nothing to ask!

Just make sure your child isn't jumping up and down on a glass table with a cigarette in their hand

I asked how many other children were joining that year.

I mentioned that I was concerned DD wouldn't know anyone (new to the area and hadn't attended the nursery adjoining the primary).
I told teacher that DD's name is Josephine* but has always been known as Josie. She said she'd make a note for all of the books, signs etc.
They watched DD playing, and probably noticed that she did so right next to my feet which indicated her shyness. The TA asked DD to show her our garden while I had the rest of the chat with the teacher.

Just this very short amount of time was a great way to introduce DD to teacher and TA and she adored them from then on.

*DD's name is not Josephine.

If you have the teacher in your house they are a Good Person and your child will trust them forever more, I think that's the logic I clarified some very minor logistics like should I put spare clothes in the PE bag or separately!
