Buying school uniforms

Hi all! I'm currently working on a new business proposition about primary school uniforms with Imperial College London. I would greater appreciate if you took 3 minutes of your time to fill out a survey.

I'd love to hear back from all of you in order to build a better business that helps out busy mums! Thanks for your time Smile qsharingeu.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_2ly62JCojnUNJ53

Done.

The how many children/gender question doesn’t work on a mobile if you have more than 2 children and if they’re the same gender

refusetobeasheep · 08/06/2019 21:39

Also the child age question does not work if you only have one child - it tells you you have to provide an answer. So eg I put child one as male and female just to allow the survey to go through.

Also if you are asking people to rate things 1-10 you should define what 1 and what 10 means .....

IndistinctRadioChatter · 08/06/2019 21:41

That is a long survey.

When you ask where do we buy uniforms do you mean school branded items or just regular trousers, shirts, shoes, etc.

Honeyplop · 08/06/2019 21:52

Why is age of 'buyer', gender or job title relevant? Genuine question.
The form doesn't work if you only have one child. Also I don't buy a complete school uniform more than once a year. But I will pick up bits as and when. Your form doesn't specify if you are talking about a full school branded uniform or things like trousers/skirts/coats that can be picked up in M&S or Asda etc.

AuntieStella · 08/06/2019 22:06

No one makes decisions about buying uniform as such. There's a list. It gets bought when it's needed. It wasn't possible to skip those questions, or 'other' them, so I had to abandon it.

And agree there's a glitch when giving ages/sexes of DC

Also that it's clunky, and does not allow well for uniforms which include both specialist supplier items and generic ones

AuntieStella · 08/06/2019 22:09

Oh, and the annual budget question will not give you good data. DC are enormously expensive when they transfer schools, and during growth spurts, but can be much cheaper at other times. An annual figure (especially when age of DC is not asked for, and number of DC is a bit buggy on the form) doesn't strike me as useful.

No choice of location if you live outside of London.
Doesn't really take into schools where there is a single supplier for all items.

Completed as much as possible

User260486 · 09/06/2019 09:20

Most people don't have a choice, they are given a list of required items, some may be generic, some items with logo are expected to be bought from the school shop. This is not reflected in the survey. Also if a child is in a private school, there is almost no choice at all.

Juniorwarriors · 09/06/2019 10:15

I also had difficulty with the child gender question. I have two the same, but could not fill that in.

I also did not realize until I tried to complete the survey that you only want people who live in London to answer it.

suitcaseofdreams · 09/06/2019 13:44

I write market research questionnaires for a living and I’m afraid I couldn’t fill this in because it was so badly written and structured. If you don’t make some changes to the survey I’m afraid you will get completely meaningless data from which it will be impossible to draw any conclusions
I would recommend you take the survey down and get some guidance on survey writing and give it another go
I’m sorry to be so critical but if you want to maximise the insight you collect for your new business venture and generate some actionable data then you really need to redesign your survey first
Good luck!

myself2020 · 09/06/2019 16:02

tried to fill it in, but couldn’t get past tve “number of children” question
for me the key priority is no plastic - i don’t want polyestrr school uniform

Pipandmum · 09/06/2019 16:15

I stopped filling this is as it did not relate to my school which has just one supplier for all the logo items. So questions about shops irrelevant.
I do not buy uniforms once or twice a year - I bought it all when joining and replace as and when needed. Therefore those three questions irrelevant.
I do not live in London.
It doesn’t allow you to put more than two kids in.
As for importance of different factors (style, affordability etc) are all irrelevant as the school dictates the uniform, there is only one supplier therefore I have no choice on any of it.

IAR22 · 10/06/2019 12:19

Thanks for all of your questions and concerns! Apologies for the issues with the survey. I will speak to my team about reformatting it and making sure we specify our area of research more specifically! Thank you for everyone that filled it out!
