cat's cradle craze

The latest playground craze in my DD1's school just now is cat's cradle. She's suddenly very busy with string and looking up videos and says "everyone" is doing it in the playground.
Just wondering, if that's just our primary or if its' going viral?

Mine are at an infants so normally a couple of crazes behind - the older Y2 kids are still firmly in loom bands territory... DD1 spent most of half term looking up loom band videos and trying to copy them, nicking all my crochet hooks and getting really annoyed at not being able to follow the videos so I ended up with a corking carpal tunnel flareup doing triple fishtail braid ones and the like for her.

I could quite do with a cats cradle phase - I can still remember how to do them from the 80s!

And I'd take string over bloody slime any day - the sight and noise of slime just makes me want to vom.

Yes definitely been a craze for a few months now with yr3 dd1.
Not the same level of craze as slime & fidget spinners yet.

It's four square at my school.

Yep, playing with string seemed better than slime and plastic to me too. Though maybe just my and Muddlingalongalone's school. Wonder if we are both in Scotland.

Haven't seen it among the girls in DC's primary school. Sounds lovely though I remember going through that craze 30 years ago.

Iwantacampervan · 10/06/2019 15:11

Are they playing with 'elastics' as well?

weebarra · 10/06/2019 15:13

Not here in east Scotland. Not sure that there is a fully blown craze apart from the older ones still playing fortnite.

Stravapalava · 10/06/2019 19:44

Not in the East Midlands yet. There doesn't seem to be a particular craze at the moment, slime is still tailing off.

MeMeMeYou · 10/06/2019 20:49

Yes it’s in my school in Surrey too

SoyDora · 10/06/2019 20:51

We’re in the East Midlands and I’ve not seen it in gone school playground but randomly I taught my 5 year old to do it at the weekend and she took some string in to school today to show her friends! So maybe I’ve just started the craze Grin

Fortnite, minecraft and rubix cubes here for the 8/9 years olds.
