My DD has her phonics screening in June. I was wondering how they are tested/scored. I know there are 20 alien words and 20 real words, however are they allowed to sound out the word and then say it once they’ve decoded it - ie. h, ou ,se = house or do they have to decode it in their heads and just say the complete word? I assumed they’d be allowed to sound it out loud then say it, as this is how we read tricky words at home - however a friend whose DD is at another school has been told by the teacher if they sound it out first then say the whole word this would be classed as incorrect. Does anyone know?
